Delete your Instadreams account

This page explains how to delete your account in the Instadreams app, and everything in it, with or without the app.

In the app

1. Open Instadreams and go to Settings.
2. Tap Delete your account and confirm.

Everything is deleted from our servers at once. The app then removes the dreams on that phone too.

Without the app

Email alex@instadreams.com from your account's email address and ask us to delete your account. Writing from that address is how we know the request is yours. We delete the account within 30 days and reply to confirm.

Signed in with Apple and hid your email? The easiest way is the app: Settings, then Delete your account, which needs no email. If you would rather write to us, you can write from any address, but include the private relay address we hold for you. It is shown in your Apple ID settings, under Sign in with Apple, for Instadreams.

What is deleted

• Your recordings
• Transcripts and the written-up text of your dreams, titles, tags and your notes
• Illustrations
• Export archives
• Your account: email address, password and sign-ins
• Your Sign in with Apple or Google link. For Apple we also ask Apple to revoke the app's access, as described below.

What is kept, and for how long

• Anonymised usage counts, such as how many dreams were recorded and what the AI services cost. They are kept indefinitely, and they no longer have any link to you.
• Encrypted backups of our database are deleted after 14 days. Until then a deleted account can remain in a backup. We restore a backup only to recover from a disaster.
• Your email asking us to delete the account, if you sent one, and our reply: up to two years after our last exchange, like any message to us.
• The encrypted Apple token, if you signed in with Apple: kept only until Apple confirms the revoke, and at most about two weeks after deletion if Apple cannot be reached.
• Server logs and error reports are deleted within 30 and 90 days.

If you never made an account

Without an account you use Instadreams as a guest, and your dreams are tied to a random token kept on your phone. We cannot tell which guest is you, so we cannot delete guest data by email. Instead:

• Settings → Delete everything deletes all of your dreams from our servers at once, the same way as deleting an account.
• Deleting a single dream removes its text at once, and its recording and illustration from our servers within a few minutes.
• If you stop using the app, we delete a guest's dreams and everything under them after 24 months without the app reaching our servers.

Uninstalling the app, clearing its data, or "Start fresh" removes the dreams from your phone only. The copies on our servers stay until the 24 months have passed, so use Delete everything first if you want them gone now.
